My Journey of Building "Priti's Life": Tips for Growing Your YouTube Channel-
Starting a YouTube channel is like stepping into a new world, full of possibilities but also challenges. When I launched "Priti's Life," I didn’t have a blueprint for success. I just had a passion for creating content, sharing experiences, and connecting with people. Along the way, I’ve learned a lot about the art and science of building a channel from scratch. In this blog, I’ll share my journey and the tips that helped me grow my channel, in the hope that they can inspire and guide others who are thinking about starting their own.
Finding My Niche-
When I first started, I knew I wanted to create lifestyle content, but the question was, "What kind of lifestyle content?" YouTube is full of creators, and it’s easy to feel lost in the crowd. I realized that to stand out, I needed to focus on my unique interests and perspective. That’s when I decided to focus on creating videos that highlight everyday moments, from cooking with my dog Timmy watching curiously in the background, to celebrating festivals like Karwa Chauth.
The first tip I can give anyone starting out is: Find your niche and stick to it.It’s tempting to try a bit of everything, but focusing on one area helps viewers understand what your channel is about and why they should subscribe.
Consistency is Key-
In the early days, I struggled with consistency. I would post a video one week, and then it might be a month before I posted again. While it’s okay to experiment when you’re new, I quickly realized that consistency is crucial to building an audience.
After a few months, I set a goal to post regularly—whether it was weekly or bi-weekly—and it made a huge difference. Subscribers started to know when to expect new content, which helped boost engagement. **Sticking to a schedule**, even if it's just one video a week, helps viewers trust that your channel is active and worth following.
Engaging with the Audience-
One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been the connection I’ve made with my audience. Early on, I made sure to respond to comments and ask for feedback. This not only helps build a community but also gives you insights into what your viewers like or want to see more of.
I’ve also learned the importance of creating content based on viewer suggestions. For example, some of my most popular videos have come from audience requests, like when I shared more details about how I balance content creation with my personal life or showcased behind-the-scenes footage of my Karwa Chauth preparation.
Listening to your audience shows that you value their opinions, and it keeps them coming back for more.
Thumbnails and Titles Matter-
One of the biggest challenges I faced was getting people to click on my videos. I realized that even with great content, people won’t click unless the video stands out. That’s when I started to focus more on creating eye-catching thumbnails and compelling titles.
Your thumbnail is the first thing potential viewers see, and it has to make them curious enough to click. I experimented with different styles, and now I make sure my thumbnails are bright, bold, and clearly show what the video is about. Similarly, titles should be clear and specific but also intriguing enough to make people want to watch.
Collaborating with Other Creators-
I’ve had the opportunity to work with other creators in my niche, and it’s been a fantastic way to reach new audiences. By appearing on each other’s channels, we’ve been able to share our subscribers and introduce new viewers to each other's content.
Find creators in your niche and reach out to collaborate. It could be something simple, like a shoutout, or a full video project together. The key is to make sure it feels authentic and beneficial for both audiences.
Patience and Persistence-
Growing a YouTube channel takes time. There were moments when I felt like giving up, especially when growth seemed slow. However, I reminded myself that **patience is part of the process**. No one becomes an overnight sensation, and most successful YouTubers took years to build their following.
It’s easy to get discouraged when you don’t see immediate results, but the key is to keep going. Each video is a step forward, and over time, those small steps add up.
Learning from Analytics-
One of the most valuable tools for growing a channel is YouTube’s analytics. It took me a while to understand how to use them effectively, but now I regularly check my analytics to see what’s working and what’s not. For example, I can see which videos have the highest watch time or where viewers drop off, which helps me adjust my future content.
Don’t ignore the data. It can give you insights into how to improve your videos and better cater to your audience’s preferences.
Monetization and Beyond-
While growth was my primary focus in the beginning, I eventually started thinking about monetization. I applied for the YouTube Partner Program once I met the requirements, and now my channel generates some income. But monetization isn’t the end goal. For me, **it’s more about building a community and sharing my passions.
Looking ahead, I plan to diversify my content and possibly explore other platforms, but my heart will always remain with YouTube because of the connections I’ve made and the creativity I can express.
